The Icarus Project
Oak Park High School - Oak Park, United States

Team Description

We are the Oak Park High School Rocket Team. We participate in the Team America Rocketry Challenge sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association. We also design and build high power rockets. We are interested in aviation, space exploration, geography, engineering, and most importantly, ADVENTURE. We are sponsored by Boeing.

Plan for launch

We are traveling to central Nebraska from California to launch our balloon on Monday, August 21 during the eclipse, The balloon will carry cameras to document the total eclipse during totality and conduct other experiments related to the eclipse. We will then create a photo essay about the Great American Eclipse that will include photos of the earth from the perspective of the high altitude balloon throughout the event.

Why did you join?

We are interested in learning about launching a weather balloon and the timing with the eclipse is something not to be missed. We are all booked to fly to Nebraska and launch our GSBC from there on August 21.
