We are a high school student-run 3U CubeSat team that, in addition to designing and constructing a nanosatellite, is developing a weather balloon payload to test our primary instrument, which will intercept radio soundings from ground-based ionosondes in order to provide more accurate electron density measurements of the ionosphere.
We plan to launch a 300g high-altitude balloon. The payload will consist of a deployable nitinol HF antenna connected to an SDR and an onboard flight computer. We will listen to ground-based ionosonde soundings to obtain intermediate measurements for higher-accuracy density measurements of the ionosphere.
We want the chance for our project to be evaluated and judged in a competitive environment, as well as guidance for the development of our high-altitude balloon.
